About This Beer
What better way for Fremont Brewing to celebrate their golden birthday on August 13th than with a deliciously complex, barrel aged Golden Barleywine?
The brewers started with a base of four different specialty malts hopped with Columbus, Magnum, and US Goldings, giving it a smooth character and mild bitterness. Then they blended Barleywines aged for 5, 7, 18, 20, and 28 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels.
Tasting Notes
Swirl a glass and aromas of maple, vanilla, and golden raisins rise out. Each velvety sip delivers rich and malty layers of the same, plus honey, oak, and leather. Butterscotch notes and barrel tones balance a pleasantly warming 13.6% ABV.

A little less sweetness would make this a masterpiece!

Hard to pin down flavor notes here, very interesting flavor. Sweet, vanilla, caramel, and maybe a bit of rum on the backend?

Barrel, brown sugar, butterscotch. Lacking body and complexity though

The “golden” aspect brings out a wheat wine -ish flavor base IMO. It’s good, maybe a bit under-whelming.

"Too soon, junior." Would like to try this one again after a longer slumber.

Very enjoyable even though it's different from the traditional dark vinous barleywine you may be used to. Golden raisin is what you'd think, but it's a bit more complex.

Good combination of malts. Nice caramel sweetness balanced with barrel-aging makes for a smooth finish.
