2020 The Rusty Nail - 13.3% ABV

This latest vintage currently maintains a 100/100 on BeerAdvocate. The brewers aged the malty base beer for 15 months in 8-to-12-year-old Bourbon Barrels with brewer’s licorice and cassia cinnamon bark. 

The result is a Dark Beer delicacy, complete with a nose of freshly baked gingerbread cake. On each sip, silky-smooth notes of molasses and brown sugar mingle with only the slightest kiss of cinnamon, dry cacao, and a touch of caramel. Creamy, warm, and roasty, it’s no wonder drinkers like @Michelle T. call it “a life changing beer.”

2019 The Rusty Nail - 13.9% ABV

Upon its release, this vintage ranked as the #1 English Oatmeal Stout in the entire world on BeerAdvocate. Also aged 15 months in 12-year-old Bourbon Barrels on brewer’s licorice and cassia cinnamon bark, the 2019 cranks it up with a slightly higher ABV than the 2020. 

It’s slightly more oaky on the nose, and has a touch of dark fruit sweetness right at the top. Spending the last two years resting in Fremont’s cellar grants an even more subtle current of caramel at the end. @Paul G. in Belgium even had to exclaim (translated from Dutch), “This is the tastiest, booziest American thing I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve drunk plenty of bourbon.”

2018 The Rusty Nail - 14.5% ABV

The 2018 release won Silver at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer in the Speciality Strong Porter/Stout category! 

With the boldest ABV of the three, it offers immediate warmth with hefty notes of molasses and bitter cacao on the palate. The lingering woody finish and rich, dark sweetness is a vivid reminder of the quality Bourbon Barrels the brewers aged it in. 

This vintage of The Rusty Nail is yet another brew that garners fans across the globe; travelers like @Joe Joe exclaim: “[I] Had to bring this with me to Austria, everyone here loves this beer!”
