A Note on This Beer
Today we have a rich, boozy Imperial Stout that was aged in not one, not two, but THREE different kinds of Bourbon Barrels!
That’s right! The Nevada Dark Beer masters at Great Basin used a trifecta of Wild Turkey, Rogue, and Jim Beam Bourbon Barrels to age their 427 Scytale (2018) Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout for a full 427 days!
That many days in the barrel may seem random, but it’s exactly how long these GABF Gold Medal-winning brewers needed to meld the pure Bourbon intensity with the caramel and dark cocoa essences of the Imperial Stout base.
Any longer, and the oak from the barrels overpowers the ganache-like silkiness; any shorter, and the toffee liqueur bite won’t infuse into the brew. Aged just right, the layers of whiskey-soaked fudge masterfully melt into a boozy, 11.8% ABV malted milkshake of a beer.
And since today’s pour is a prized vintage, it’s had an extra 365 days of cellaring in the bottle! This extra time allows the nuances of oaky vanilla and smoky char to fuse together in every sinfully-smooth sip.
Which means you don’t even have to worry about cellaring it! You can just pop this baby open as soon as it lands on your doorstep and indulge in its caramel whiskey warmth — preferably while cozying up by the fireplace.
How’s that for instant gratification?!
