A Note on This Beer
Today’s 903 Oktoberfest from the crew at 903 Brewing reminds me that a crisp, refreshing Märzenbier deserves to be enjoyed year-round!
If you don’t know the story behind this Old-World Bavarian style, it’s time for a little history lesson:
In the 16th century, brewing beer was forbidden between the months of April and September to prevent spoilage from the warmer weather. Thus, Märzenbier — literally meaning “March beer” — were lagers the Bavarians crafted in the spring to drink all summer long. Until fall, when they could start brewing again!
Luckily, we’re living in the 21st century where beer can be brewed in all seasons! And the brewers at 903 have been killing the craft game season after season in the Lone Star State, even winning a prestigious Gold Medal at the 2019 U.S. Open Beer Championships!
They made today’s 5.4% ABV Lager light enough to throw back while dancing the polka, eating bratwursts, and wearing lederhosen! Seriously, this crisp, crushable brew is an excellent way to cool off and party on.
Pour it in your best stein and marvel at its amber hue. Each sip boasts a robust malt backbone, while a touch of toasted-toffee sweetness balances out the bready grain notes. Roasty with a dry, clean finish, it’s a beer you will want to drink by the liter.
Oktoberfest is probably the closest thing to an official craft beer holiday here in America, and it’s a damn good reason to celebrate. So grab some buds, crush some good beer, and be sure to say “Prost” — or as they say in Texas, “Prost, y’all!”
