A Note on This Beer
Today’s beer name — A Modern Ballad of Self Torture — is quite ironic. With overflowing flavors of Mandarin orange, fresh mango, and passionfruity dankness, plus a velvety-smooth mouthfeel from lactose, this gorgeous hopbomb is anything but torturous!
That said, I have a couple theories as to why the pros* at Burial Beer Co. chose the name:
- The IPA’s gushing tropicality comes from double dry-hopped helpings of 2020 crop Galaxy, Simcoe, and Sabro, plus extra-potent Simcoe Cryo. With harvest season long gone, it’s unlikely we’ll get to taste this exact same lineup again!
- It’s a limited release that’s even skipping many of Burial’s usual East Coast haunts. Unless they move fast, a lot of hop-thirsty denizens are going to go un-quenched on this brew’s satiating haze.
So, to ward off thirst torture for yourself, there’s only one thing to do: load up on as much as possible, right now!

*Thrillist calls Burial one of the 13 Essential American Breweries!
NOTE: Some cans have a typo that says "2019 crop" for the hops, but we confirmed with the brewer that all hops used were from 2020.
