About This Beer

Perennial’s poster child, Abraxas, is a benchmark of Pastry Stout excellence — it practically inspired the rise of the style. This vintage comes loaded with Ancho chili peppers, bittersweet cacao nibs, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Tasting Notes

Just imagine drinking an artisanal cup of cocoa decked out with tongue-tickling spices. Tantalizing ripples of dark chocolate swirl alongside creamy caramel and warming spice, expertly complimented by the gentle heat coming from the boozy 11.5% ABV. And it’s all wrapped up in sumptuous notes of roasty malts.

Was once something to seek. Now, with all other great offerings similar in flavor profile out there, this is just run of the mill. Still hoping to get my hands on the bba version.

Chocolatey and sweet up front, followed by burnt oak and malt, then settles into vanilla and a hint of spicey pepper for the win. Layers of awesome.

Always good. Like drinking a gingerbread cookie. Thank Tavour for the three pack option with Coffee and Vanilla at a decent price.

Big body and thick mouthfeel. Just the right amount of heat from the chiles that is perfectly balanced out by the coffee and chocolate

This is a great dessert beer that I have been buying for over five years. The base imperial stout is excellent. The cinnamon, vanilla cocoa nibs, and chili peppers are well balanced and the chili peppers do not stand out on this beer. I really enjoy this beer and have several in the cellar.

Never felt like this was as good as it was supposed to be. Solid imperial stout, but the absence of coffee has always puzzled me.

So smooth. When chilled the cinnamon and chili are prominent but then fade as the beer warms. Liking this better than the coffee abraxas of the same year, slow sipping beer that’s a great way to finish a summer day. Chocolate on palette with cinnamon being most prevalent early. Cacao nose when warmed up. This is a reminder that serving temps should be shared with the beer; fine to a be a range. It’s enjoyable to have the beer evolve as temp rises. But I don’t get enough of these to be able to experiment with serving temps and aging length.

I loved everything about this. The cinnamon and vanilla were strong followed by the bitterness of the cacao nibs. I didn't get much of the chili bite.
