About This Beer
Fans often note how remarkable it is that the Hubbard’s Cave crew managed to coax out so much flavor from this stunning sipper without using any adjuncts. That’s no accident either. This team knows what they’re doing — even Forbes listed Hubbard’s as one of the Best Breweries in Chicago!
Tasting Notes
It can come as a shock when those intense chocolate notes, roasty coffee, and dried plum notes wash over your taste buds. Even I’m surprised at how rich and delicious each smooth swig is, and I’ve already tried it before!

Sweet, slightly boozy, with good body, but I wish it had a little more carbonation to give it a crisper bite.

Great chocolate notes with dark fruit. Amazing that no adjuncts were used in making this stout.

The Hubbard Cave beers are just too sweet for my taste. Do not let this one warm up after you pour it up.

Really having a hard time believing there’s no adjuncts in here, tastes sweet like their some coco nibs or something in it, really enjoyed this and think it would great barrel aged

I think I just can't get into Hubbard's Cave beers. I have remains hopeful but they are my lowest rates brewery. then tend to be on the sweet side and I can't get over it. this one has a bitter stout flavor but more on the burnt side. then the sweetened his hard I think trying to cover the bitter. this might be my last visit to the cave.

Sweet, chocolate, vanilla, dark/dried fruit and smoke - especially in the aftertaste, not strong or overpowering but present. Better than I expected and hides the booze well.

I love most other Hubbard’s cave beers but this one doesn’t hit any particular spots, a bit too bland overall

A bit too sweet and sticky for my liking, but it was OK. Does not age well, as I only waited a few months. It certainly masked the booze well.

Truly awful. Way too sweet which covers up any potentially redeeming qualities.

Nice sweetness upfront and then someone just made me chew on cigarette butts

Pours a nice deep black, has a nice aftertaste and subtle sweetness with a light hint of chocolate and vanilla. Wonderfully balanced stout can’t wait to try this again.

RIS aroma with a hint of prunes, very sweet stone fruit taste with chocolate notes, thin mouthfeel, and warming alcohol finish.

this will wake you up. 12% is no joke. I think it’s a little thick for me. Maybe a touch too sweet but then again I don’t typically go for Stouts. I have had better ones though!

roasty, a little sweet but overpowered by a boozy taste, could easily be barrel aged. good but not great
