A Note on This Beer
In the dark, decadent dominion of Old Ales, one name is forever etched on the collective mind of craft fans: Adam. The mere whisper of his name will bring forth an avalanche of chocolate, dark fruit, and toffee -- proving why Hair of the Dog’s 10% ABV famed brew is rated the #6 Old Ale in the world on BeerAdvocate.
Hearkening back to a forgotten style that originated in Dortmund, Germany 200 years ago, Hair of the Dog’s ‘Adambier’ helped to revive the rich tradition of this Old Ale in the craft scene, and its bevy of extravagant flavors and booze keeps Dark Beer lovers sipping year after year.
Adam’s chestnut pour releases opulent aromas of caramel, chocolate-covered figs and dark treacles from your snifter. If you’re donning a silk robe and clutching a fine Cuban cigar while sidled up to a roaring fireplace, you’re properly prepared to enjoy this chalice of Old Ale wisdom. Heavy roasted espresso, leather, black currants and molasses mingle with a restrained Cognac-like heat. Dark chocolate along with cola spice and toasted hazelnuts cling to a strong malt foundation. Adam’s sumptous texture is balanced with a woody bitterness that makes its 10% ABV nearly untraceable on the palate.
It’s not often a beer can be accurately described as a legend, but when the BeerAdvocate Bros have a religious experience tasting it, it’s safe to say Adam’s legacy will live on: “Goes down so smooth and creamy, with layers of sweetness that are not cloying at all caress the taste buds to bring them closer to heaven.”
