About This Beer

The two greatest songs from French metal band Gojira are definitely “Flying Whales” and “The Heaviest Matter In The Universe.” What do French metal and Anchorage Brewing have in common? This supremely decadent Barrel Aged Imperial Stout!

First off, there are flying whales on the label. That’s pretty cool.

But more importantly, Air Whale Hell may be the thickest, most decadent beer in the entire universe (or at least in the beer fridge)!

The Anchorage team pulled it off by fermenting and aging the base beer on Missouri Oak, then loading it to the brim with Klatch coffee, Tahitian vanilla, and mountains upon mountains of bananas.

Tasting Notes

The resulting midnight-hued pour comes thick and rich, a scintillating spiced oak aroma wafting from the glass. Satisfying flavors of creme anglaise and Bananas Foster fill the palate, swimming in a smooth yet MASSIVE 15% ABV, creating boozy, end-of-night bliss!

I enjoyed their other banana stout more than this one. The start is a bit weak on the banana and it doesn’t feel as full bodied as their other stouts. A bit overpriced for the beer

Man, Anchorage Brewing knows how to make a damn near perfect dark beer. Every damn time. Have I said damn too much? It’s just because this beer is so damn good.

Seems like this one is underrated on UT. Tastes exactly like advertised. Big banana on the nose and sweet banana upfront with light coffee flavor and woody, leathery barrel notes on the end. kind of a great dry woody finish. Could be considered too sweet, buy not in my opinion. I mean, it is a pastry stout. Great execution.

Melt down a chocolate bar with a high coco content, and throw in some bananas and you get this. Super dark and heavy, with a nice flavor, but possibly a little too rich. Still really good.

This is one of the better stouts that I’ve tasted, the addition of Thai bananas gives this wonderful stout and added layer of flavor and a nice bit of sweetness. The coffee forward taste diminishes greatly after the first sip. Very delicious!
