A Note on This Beer
Wikipedia describes the mighty Mushhushshu as an ancient Mesopotamian hybrid creature that’s part dragon, part eagle, part cat, and part snake. There are some badass horns on it too.
Today’s Barrel-Aged Mushhushshu ain’t no serpent-bird-kitty monster, but it’s so limited that it may as well be a myth in most craft circles. And as an 11.3% ABV Dark Ale blend brewed with real Coffee, Chocolate, and Vanilla, it’s swimming in complex flavors!
We’ve come to expect this kind of thing from Rhinegeist, a.k.a. one of USA Today’s Top Breweries in the Country.
These Cincinnati brewers always bring their A-game when it comes to barrel-aging, but managing to get one of their creations in your hands is akin to finding an ancient treasure stash.
And when it comes to Mushhushshu, even Ohio residents are more likely to see the Mesopotamian legend flying in the sky than they are to taste the beer.
Even if you hopped on the next flight to Cincy, you’d have to drive an hour north to even find Mushhushshu on a store shelf!
But hey, it’s understandable — this brew drips in malty chocolate, creamy vanilla, and luxe coffee flavors with chestnut undertones. And its 10-month nap in Bourbon Barrels (from Cincinnati’s own New Riff Distilling) makes it extra boozy and oak-soaked.
Since Mushhushshu is such a hot commodity, better keep this one a secret once you get ahold of it. If anyone does come around saying they heard you have Mushhushshu, just act confused and tell ‘em you’ve never been to Mesopotamia.
