About This Beer
Baltic Porters like Baltic Sunrise are notoriously challenging to brew.
The style is actually more akin to a Lager than a regular English or American-style Porter. The use of clean, crisp Lager yeast makes for a very sippable body even with a high level of booziness — but, it also means that unless the brewers nail it, little flaws can shine through.
That’s not a problem for the craft masters and World Beer Cup medalists at Hardywood Park!
Tasting Notes
For this 9.4% ABV Baltic Porter, the Hardywood Park team deftly coaxed out rich, robust cocoa flavors from Chocolate Malts. Then, they conditioned the brew on coffee beans from a local roastery to seal in layers of rich mocha deliciousness.
Let a sip linger on the taste buds, and you’ll discover big roasty flavors and hints of dark cherry, all leading to a bafflingly smooth finish.

good old fashioned coffee porter

Coffee really dominates, loaded with roasted bean and chocolatey notes. Finishes more like a porter, smooth and malty, lingering smokey and lightly sweet.

This is delicious. Maxed out coffee flavor, which for me is a good thing.

Lots of typical Baltic porter notes, a little sweet and the 9.4% was noticeable but fairly well disguised
. I didn’t get as much coffee as I was anticipating.

Whew. This is a good Baltic porter with just enough coffee to hide the high alcohol.

a fairly uninspiring porter, wish there was more coffee flavor based on the label
