When Midnight Sun offered us one of their most intense brews in America: their 11.6% ABV BarFly Smoked Imperial Stout, we knew we had to get it. With limited production as one of “Alaska’s Most Wanted,” BarFly is a tantalizingly glass of smoked chocolate bourbon that’s made with smoked malts, molasses, and brown sugar and aged in bourbon barrels.

Straight-up whiskey aromas seduce you to sip this charred chocolate indulgence. Like a fine Cuban cigar, cured tobacco and smoked peat notes rise from the smoked malts, with barrel-aging that brings oaky vanilla smoothness. The addition of molasses and brown sugar bring a welcome touch of sweetness to this bold, boozy brew. A bitter espresso bite lingers in the finish.

Midnight Sun is one of our go-to sources for dark intense brews, but with it's leathery-smoke accents, dark chocolate depths, and sweet bourbon intensity, BarFly is the one that stole our hearts.
