A Note on This Beer
It’s safe to say that Barrel Aged Double Avarice is among the biggest Stouts we’ve ever gotten our hands on.
This River North Brewery behemoth clocks in at 19.5% ABV!
That’s not the only factor amping up the brew to giant proportions. The Denver brewers fermented their Imperial Stout base with a special blend of yeasts, adding crisp end notes to the brew’s rich, dark chocolate and espresso depths.
And, get this — they aged the brew in Colorado Whiskey barrels for between 8 and 12 months. They finish it off by blending the separately aged Stouts together for ultra decadent complexity.
This imbued the Stout’s robust flavors with notes of woody vanilla and oak spice, while also mellowing out the boozy heat… a tad. The strength still goes straight to your cheeks, but now it’s more like taking a bite of a molten lava cake drizzled in caramel and topped with melty vanilla whip. The warmth is present, and it’s wrapped in welcoming dessert flavors.
Better clear out an entire evening devoted to this incredible sipper. Maybe grab a fellow dark beer aficionado to share it with, too — they’ll owe you a favor as big as the beer!
