A Note on This Beer

Hoppin’ Frog consistently frosts the Dark Beer competition, and they have medals up the chimney to show for it.

All that shiny glory is just icing on the sugar cookie for Tavour members — we keep bringing back this brewery’s dessert delights because you love them so much.

Like today’s Winter classics: the original Frosted Frog Christmas Ale and the Barrel-Aged Frosted Frog Christmas Ale!

Fans love the delectable notes of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and vanilla frosting swimming in these gingerbread-esque sippers. And, both come wrapped up in a caramelly-soft base, with a 8.6% ABV that can hardly be detected by the most trained palate.

Now, taste them side by side, and notice the Barrel-Aged Frosted Frog’s added touch of oaky complexity. Aged in aromatic, freshly-emptied bourbon whiskey barrels, booze-dunked snickerdoodle flavors light up your glass. Flowing fig and honey notes mingle with enhanced vanilla from the barrels for a mulled Mead-like finish.

This year, holiday cheer is kind of a no-brainer. You can sing loud for all to hear (Elf reference, best movie ever), or you can conduct the ultimate Frosted Frog tasting — with the BA version, AND the original! Best of all, you don’t even have to wait ‘til December!

Hoppin’ Frog’s boozy brews have earned oodles of GABF, International Beer Fest, and World Beer Cup awards!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Hoppin' Frog Brewery is certified independent by the Brewers Association

Really good. Like the regular Christmas ale but just a little deeper and boozier. Enjoyed it on this snowy New England December evening.

Hmm I'd say that I'm enjoying this only slightly more than the non-barrel-aged version. It has a bit of that sweet, boozy smell and flavor of barrel aged brews.

Hate Ohio, really liked the beer. Easy to drink 3 or 4 on new years and start things off right.

Bit smoother than the original but not so much to upgrade the rating

This is the barrel-aged version of the Frosted Frog I had a couple days ago. Honestly, though, the spices from the fact that this is a winter warmer overpower the barrel-aging. It’s still good, but I really can’t tell the difference from the other one.

This was heavy on the spice, even for a Christmas Ale.

Winter ale and holiday spice aromas, rich malt taste with whiskey notes, and warming alcohol finish.
