About This Beer
Rahr & Sons’ decided to improve upon their already incredible, 3-time GABF medal-winning, European Beer Star-awarded Märzen by stashing it for 12 weeks in bourbon barrels.
What came out the other end was a seasonal brew that does the Texas craft masters proud.
Tasting Notes
BarrelFest displays all the crisp, classic features of a satisfying Amber Lager, elevated further by the complex tones of whiskey-soaked oak.
Rich toffee and caramel flow through every smooth sip, accented by silky vanilla and spicy bourbon. And the full-bodied brew rocks a boozy 9.6% ABV.

excellent, hints of caramel.

amazing. I never would have thought of making and Imperial Marzen and then Barrel-aging it. it lacks some of the maltyness if a traditional Marzen, but the oak definitely makes up for it.

Caramel malt above average body, and barrel really comes through. Nice boozy marzen. So good, definitely want
more next year!

Caramel & malt in aroma. Light bourbon, w/a touch of oak, up front in taste. More caramel & malt along w/toffee. Sweetness is present but not overwhelming.

Malty aromas. Clean mouthfeel, just a bit of booziness. Sweet, malty, caramel. What you want in a marzen, but the bourbon notes add something extra that’s quite nice.

Amber orange pour. Small beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel and bourbon. Flavor is sweet toasted malt, toffee, oak and bourbon. Rich and satisfying. Complex , yet restrained. Notes of toasted nuts and brown sugar on the backend. Well done.
