A Note on This Beer
I don’t meet many folks who are “in the middle” about the Barleywine style.
They’re all either “Barleywines are the bestest, biggest, booziest beers there are!” or “I don’t understand Barleywines at all. Why are you even asking?”
But today, there’s a Barleywine that can win everyone over once and for all — the GABF and World Beer Cup award-winner from Cincinnati’s Fifty West. And this is the first time they've released it since 2017!
Aged for an entire year in bourbon barrels, Remus Revenge BBA 10&2 delivers an impressive array of flavors craft fans lust after.
And since it’s not just me and a bunch of international beer judges vouching for this decadent 12.5% ABV sipper, I’m going to let fellow craft fans tell you what it tastes like:
- “Overall an excellent barleywine, and I normally don't even like this style. It's dark cherry, oak, vanilla, and bourbon all the way, with a candied nuttiness on the end. Love!” @OceanBlue4U, BeerAdvocate
- “The taste is frickin' sensational. Caramel, vanilla. A shot of bourbon, a well-balanced sweetness that melds perfectly with the boozy barrel aging. A boozy toffee dessert. This is a real treat.” @MarkJKnowles, BeerAdvocate
- “Nice oak flavor comes through. Smells like dates and bourbon. Good stuff.” @Scott H., Untappd
Now, the one thing those reviews don’t tell you is that this beer is cellarable, and its opulence will only become more pronounced with time. So grab an extra bottle — whether you’re already on Team Barleywine or will be after one sip of 10&2, you’ll want to treat yourself more than once.
