A Note on This Beer

“Patience is what we had on this one, took 3 months!” –Anchorage Brewing

Whenever we get the opportunity to sell a rare beer style, we jump at the chance — and you get to reap the benefits! While India Pale Lagers are uncommon enough, this particular one comes with an extra kick… or should I say hop?

If Lagers aren’t the first style you think of when you reach for a craft beer, fret not! The Anchorage crew made this Double-Dry Hopped concoction with a great deal of love and, as you might imagine, patience.

Pulling part of the mash out, boiling it, and mixing it back in (a.k.a “double decoction”), lagering the brew for two months, adding Strata and Citra Hops post-fermentation in the Doubly-Dry Hop — this is more than a product of patience, it’s a true labor of love!

With the finishing result at a sturdy 8.4% ABV, this isn’t your everyday easy drinker — but it sure goes down like one! The warm, fresh baked bread flavors of the Lager malts blend with hints of fresh, zesty citrus, light berry notes and pure forest pine aromas to give a blend that expresses Anchorage’s care and composure in a full-bodied form.

If you’re the type that appreciates an unusual style that both refreshes the palate and creates a good buzz, look no further. Anchorage has put in the work, exerted the patience, and done it again.

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Anchorage Brewing Company is certified independent by the Brewers Association

It just didn’t have much flavor! Melon, citrus water? I could drink 4 of those and feel wasted but not feel as if I drank beer.

It’s an odd one. Lager vs IPA but with enough punch to be noticed. Unique almost Bock profile but I may be feelin’ the APV

If you like pilsners or lagers but want a little extra, this is your beer. Not intense like an IPA but kicks like one. Excellent around the fire pit on a clear night.

Kinda lacking any solid crisp punch from grain bill or from IPL style hopping. A rare miss from Anchorage.

3/19/21 I’m really digging Lagers/Pilsners recently. As I’m recovering from my IPA addiction, the IPL has been a revelation. This drinks like honeyed tropical fruit with that lager body that screams, “I am beer, thou shalt ravenously devour me.”

Good balance of lager + hopping. The mix at first has a soapy smell which quickly punches with straight lager aroma. Lots of berry on the palate while grains still shine through. Very interesting for an IPL.

Daily corona battle. Anchorage with the title encouragement today. edition. This is lemony, clean, complex. Unique, yet crushable. Some pine on the finish, and just so well done…as expected. Touch of bready lagering on the feel, but doesn’t linger.

Amazingly clean. Hopps pretty much undetectable. Makes for a very clean, floral lager that tastes almost malty and nowhere near 8%. Like nothing I’ve had before.

Whoa wasn't expecting this. I keep going back and forth between liking it and not. There's a sweetness that comes and goes across the palette that I dig. The fruity citra hops don't really work for me.

Not what you’d expect from a double IPA - smooooothe, not bitter, light bodied and citrusy, great buzz :)

At first I was concerned that something was wrong with the beer. Then I read the label. It's a IPL not an IPA. Change my expectations... Now it's really good.

16oz can from Tavour. Cloudy golden pour with creamy white head. Full bread dough aroma, sweet with a hint of hops. Taste balances the biscuit malts and hops perfectly, coupled with a thick, creamy body for a really full mouth feel. This brew pushed all the right buttons for me. The barely noticable 8.4% ABV puts it over the top.

Flavor is rather balanced. Shows the soft honeysuckle upfront with a mild grapefruit bitterness and the finish. Backed by The bready malt. Has an elegance about it. Real enjoyable!

The usual Anchorage fruity hoppiness shows up here, but this does also have a good bit of pine and florals, and a clean sweetness from the lagering. Very different from the ipas, but still has the India pale character I notice in Anchorage beers.
