To celebrate their Charlotte taproom’s third anniversary, the brewers teamed up with Substrate Wine, also out of Charlotte, NC. The duo started with a rich, double mashed Stout base. Then, taking inspiration from amaro, they conditioned it on gentian, juniper, star anise, wormwood, peppermint, yarrow, spruce tips, eucalyptus-fermented coffee beans, oak honeycombs, and bitter orange peel for a flavor like the Italian liqueur. And they rounded the whole thing out with vanilla beans.
