About This Beer
VinePair ranked Berliner Messe: Agnus Dei (2018 Harvest) number 5 on their Best Beers of 2020 list.
To make it, the brewers conditioned a spontaneously fermented Pale Wheat Ale base in oak for 18 months with Vidal Blanc white wine grapes. VinePair calls the resulting beer-wine hybrid “bright in every way,” referencing a “savory note that had us yearning for funky, forest-y mushrooms.”
Tasting Notes
A swirl of the glass awakens deep nuances of oaky tannins and leather, layered with a vinous minerality and notes of lemon zest and Granny Smith. The wheat base lends a mildly sweet, cereal tone at the beginning of the sip, balancing the brew’s sublime tartness.

Unique that’s for sure, tastes like champagne and apple juice. I enjoyed it, especially mid-day.

Aromatic floral scent. Bright, light, and effervescent. Depth of flavor of a funky farmhouse ale, with the tartness of an especially sour Berliner Weisse and the dryness of a sparkling wine. Finishes with notes of oak and champagne.
