A Note on This Beer
Every time L.A.’s Cellador releases a new version of their 4+ rated Berlinerish barrel fermented Ale, we do every damn thing we can think of to score a few cases. But we almost never get any.
In fact, of the 11 different versions currently on Untappd, we’ve only been able to get our hands on one. Yes, you read that right. ONE. SINGLE. RELEASE.
Usually the batches are too tiny, they sell out almost instantly, and the thirsty hoards down in SoCal simply refuse to relinquish a drop.
So when we heard Cellador was releasing today’s Berlinerish Raspberry, we knew we couldn’t let another one get away. We pleaded, begged, sent a delegation to the brewery — everything we could think of short of offering to do all of their laundry for a year. Although that was next on our list of things to try.
And low and behold, they sent us a stash! Not a big stash, but an extremely lucky few of you will actually get to try this funky, fruity, tart and tasty nectar without flying to LAX to battle the release day crowds.
Why do we get so excited about Berlinerish? Let us count the ways…
Huge Scores! Cellador is one of the top Wild and Sour breweries in the country, with a higher BeerAdvocate score than Jester King and Allagash. Early tasters have already given today’s Berlinerish Raspberry a 4.11 on UT!
Barrel Expertise! Cellador is one of the only breweries in the country that focuses exclusively on barrel-fermented beers. Thrillist listed them as one of the Best Breweries in Los Angeles and Timeout called them “one of the best beer makers in L.A.”
Ludicrously Delicious! One sip of Berlinerish Raspberry and you won’t need any other reason to fall in love with Cellador. Bright, sunny notes from aging on whole raspberries shine alongside oaky complexity only achievable with barrel fermentation. The brewery’s in-house culture lends the Ale funky notes of Brett, and the ultra-light mouthfeel keeps it crisply refreshing.
This is an exceedingly rare chance to sample this celebrated Berlinerish series without having to fight traffic in the San Fernando Valley. And once it’s gone, we have no idea when we’ll ever see one of these brews again. If you’re lucky enough to get a bottle, savor it.
