A Note on This Beer

I’m always up for a candy cane! What can I say? They make me feel like a kid again.

Though I’m happy to be an adult, because now I get to enjoy my candy cane flavors in beer form. I’m talking about today’s Big Daddy Kandy Kane Berliner Weisse from Mikerphone Brewing!

These brewers load heaps of refreshing peppermint into each batch of this seasonal delight. The result is a light-bodied brew packed with so much candy cane-like flavor, you might just down a crispy can faster than kid-you could munch the actual candy!

But, fair warning: this Mikerphone beer-candy already has craft fans bursting with youthful glee. I mean, just listen to @Holly K. exclaim, “SO amazing!!!”

Surprisingly balanced, I was pleasantly suprised. You get mint on the nose and the finish but and nice berlinerly tartness on the palate. Definitely an interesting beer none the less.

Much more crisp and refreshing than you'd expect. I had prepared myself for the equivalent of a peppermint-sour, but ended up with a beer that's as balanced as it is unique. There's no question that the peppermint is there, however it's not in-your-face about it. A fun, flavorful, winter weisse beer.

Hats off for having the stones to put this out there, but it didn’t work for me. The Weisse flavor is GREAT. That peppermint finish though...it was just weird. Strange flavor with a stranger after taste. I still finished it though, so...

omg 😍 this is insane! who would've thought peppermint candy canes + beer would equal heaven?! especially when the beer also has sour notes?! but I also love mint anything and sours so I may be slightly biased, but this is awesome

This is a very strange beer. It's kind of a fruity Berliner weisse, with a minty overtone that's just strange.

Ordered from Tavour, chilled, and poured into an Imperial pint glass. Look: Transparent, light pink, one finger head that dissipated very quickly. Smell: Odd. Slightly sour wheat beer with peppermint candy cane, and then just weirdness with a hint of funk. Taste: Sour funk up front followed by peppermint then trailing peppermint and light funk. Feel: Light, sort of crisp, small tickle of carbonation. Overall this is an odd beer. Not one we would get again, but always glad to try creative brews. Cheers!

I expected a more flavorable experience but this beer ended up being a bit flat. Not the peppermint flavor I expected. Interesting slightly sour flavor.

One of the most unique beers I've ever had. Would be great for Christmas time. Tons of that peppermint, like liquefied candy canes, up front. Followed by a sour, tart, fruity finish. Bonus points for the awesome Big Daddy Kane reference. 1.5 Thumbs Up!

I was scared to drink it after reading the other reviews, but this really isn't bad at all! I really appreciate the daring oddball flavors in this lighter, ever so slightly sour beer. It's pepperminty enough to be extra refreshing, but not over the top. Stay weird, Mikerphone.

Interesting. There’s a very subtle taste of peppermint and overall the taste is pretty light. It’s refreshing and enjoyable but not a whole lot going on otherwise

Ok, it was pure curiosity with high hopes that got to me with this one.. Sadly, I did contemplate pouring it down the drain. Smelled like a candy cane/peppermint candy - which was awesome.. Taste wise.. Yeah.. As if I were sucking on said candy then drank a regular beer with it. Or if I'd just did a mouthwash, then drank a regular beer.. It did not mix well.

Who let this leave the doors at Mikerphone? Usually they hit the mark but this one must have been mislabeled. Sounded like a good beer but it was like a bad sour. Straight down the drain with this one.
