A Note on This Beer

It’s a Tangerine Golden Ale aged in Mezcal Barrels!

When you have an incredible sipper like this in hand, there’s no point in playing it coy.

This is the latest limited release from Pelican Brewing’s 25th anniversary celebration and — to put things bluntly — it’s mighty impressive. The brewers added ripe tangerines to their Golden Ale base, then aged it in three different kinds of mezcal barrels for three months total.

Plus, they teamed up with the Oregon Beer Award-winners at Gigantic Brewing to do it!

Pop one open, and bright, pithy citrus aromas spill out, along with a hit of mezcal smokiness. On the tongue, sweet agave mingles with juicy tangerine and vanilla toasted oak to create a unique expression of summertime flavors. It’s a sunny, cocktail-inspired ale that invokes feelings of sipping out on the patio at Pelican’s beachside taproom.

If someone should interrupt your daydreaming to ask you what you’re drinking, the fastest way to their amazement will be to tell it to them straight:

It’s a Tangerine Golden Ale aged in Mezcal Barrels!

Pelican Brewing has a lot to celebrate in their 25 years of existence, including a whopping 45 Great American Beer Festival medals!

Has a light Belgium style but the Mazcal barreling add an edge to the taste. Great beer, I had a flashbac to 40 years ago when I had to much Mazcal one night in college. Just had my second bottle of Bird Day and liked it even more. I stand by the rating.

Not my cup of tea personally but the Mezcal barrel definitely comes through. Not so much tangerine. I didn’t like it but it’s a good beer for what it is I’d say

Tasted like some kind of cold medicine. I'm going to cork it and let someone else try it before I pour it down the drain

It tastes a bit like they tried to mellow out the tangerines and thus a bit discordant. I'd prefer the real tangerine tangy finish.

Love the melange of flavors in this, influenced by Belgium style, vintage.

I get the whole cocktail thing, but with the lack of both sweetness and alcoholic oomph, this just tastes like Orange Fanta with no sugar.

look.. I read other reviews that they taste the mezcal..I do not taste mezcal at all! Just a strong citrus flavor thats overpowering.. and look I'm a mezcal drinker that's the only hard liquor I drink..disappointing for sure!

Tangerines are the stars of the show while the Mezcal adds a hint of smokiness to the finish.

I don’t pick up much mezcal flavor. Has a nice funky, sourness to it, but subtle.

definitely unique flavors for a beer. there is a noticeable essence of smoky mezcal and orang peel, but not sweet. I think this would pair well with many Latin American dishes particularly the spicy variety

Decent tequila hit on the nose, incredibly sweet upon sweetness entirely after. A little funk, a little sour.
