A Note on This Beer
When they spot Jester King on a taplist, beer geeks know they’re at a legit craft beer bar. When they happen upon a bottle of JK at a shop, they’ll remember that shop forever. And if they come across a JK beer at a bottleshare, beer geeks recognize they’re amongst other real beer geeks.
Jester King played a huge role in introducing Farmhouse Ales to US craft. They’ve inspired an explosion of Farmhouse breweries across the country. Still, none have been able to replicate the funky styles that earned Jester King their place as one of Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine’s Top 5 Best Small Breweries.
Fans want that Jester King expertise and the dialed-in flavors that come with it. Today’s 9% ABV Birra di Sangiovese Barrel-Aged Sour (Blend 2) is a showstopper with any craft beer crowd. Due to the unpredictable nature of wild cultures, no two batches of this beer will ever taste the same. And with only 217 cases produced, tasting it is like winning tickets to a sold out concert after the band has announced it’ll be their final tour.
The brewery uses 1,100 lbs of hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes, blended into eight oak barrels of mature sour beer.
Its aroma is fruity and tangy like a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. The taste has a medium tartness, with juicy flavors of loganberries, dry red wine, and grape musk. The finish drifts off the palate with notes of tannic teased malts and vinous, earthy funk.
Serious fans know that when they find Jester King, they’ve found a haven for craft beer. And when they’re lucky enough to find a beer like Birra di Sangiovese, they snatch it up before it disappears forever.
