A Note on This Beer
Deschutes XXVII edition of their legendary Black Butte Birthday Reserve Imperial Porter might be the most collectable yet. Fans across the internet are already going gaga for it, giving the highest rating for any Black Butte Reserve so far with a stunning 4.28 on Untappd!
Deschutes starts off as they usually do for the super rare series - by Bourbon barrel aging their legendary bittersweet chocolate Porter that receives a perfect 100 rating from the BeerAdvocate Bros. Then new for this year they adorn it with a panache of smoke character with Scotch Barrels and Peated Malt. The whole chocolate box of gourmet whiskey-soaked complexity expands even further with additions of cocoa, vanilla, and sweet orange peel.
Black as briquettes, this beer smolders in the glass. Deep black molasses and stoneground cocoa rise on soft plumes of smoke. Medjool dates, slight currants, and dried orange peel ride up on the vapors of a supple 11.2% ABV. Chocolate bursts on the tongue like a orange liqueur infused ganache. Faint curls of open fire deepen the roasts. Smooth bitter char pairs with a streak of vanilla to dance a delicate balance on the end.
Among elite beer traders, Black Butte Birthday Reserve Series is so desirable it is a virtual currency. Fill your cellar with unique, Scotch-whiskey-laced gold with the XXVIII edition.
