A Note on This Beer

You probably already know Deschutes Brewing. Heck, if you’re anything like me, you might have a bottle or two in your fridge right now.

But, today’s limited release Black Mirror Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine won’t be showing up in your grocery store’s beer aisle. In fact, outside of the Pacific Northwest, finding a bottle of this Reserve Series sipper is next to impossible.

Which is why I’m stoked to share a stash of this 13% ABV treat with our members.

Because, what kind of beer buddy would I be if I didn’t give you a shot at the brew fans are calling a “damn fine beer” and “perfectly balanced from beginning to end!”

A beer so beloved, it even ranks among the Top 50 American Barleywines in the World on BeerAdvocate!

To create it, the Bend, Oregon brewery crafted a Barleywine with lots of dark, chocolaty malts, then aged it for a full 11 months in Bourbon Barrels. The result is a spectacular symphony of cocoa, whiskey, toffee, and dark fruit flavors.

Cut away the wax on this hand-dipped bottle and aromas of freshly roasted coffee, rich dark chocolate, and a hint of Bourbon warmth rise from the inky black pour. Take a sip, and indulge in wave after wave of creamy mocha, candied dates, and smooth vanilla. A hint of oaky whiskey lingers on the finish... until, of course, you wash it away with the next sip and indulge all over again.

Excellent example of a dark barleywine! I’m really not a fan of bittering hops in large quantities and this had just enough to balance the huge maltiness and high abv. Absolutely delicious

Somehow light and chocolatey at the same time. It reminds me of a stout without having the overpowering stout backend - finishes and carries like an ale. Extremely enjoyable.
