Much as I like to pretend I have rippling muscles and flowing locks, I’m no God of Thunder. Still, I’d like to think I could throw back a few barrels of this delicious honey beverage — especially when it comes from Superstition Meadery!

This Arizona fermenting crew is at the forefront of the modern Mead renaissance, and they’ve got a Mazer Cup International Mead Competition Gold Medal to show for it.

Whether you’re new to Mead or a longtime aficionado of the brew, you owe it to yourself as a craft fan to get a taste of Superstition’s flavorful creations. Today’s Blackberry Hex serves as both a welcoming intro and a complexly layered sipper for experienced palates. 

Done in the Melomel style, Blackberry Hex boasts fermented fruit as well as fermented honey. Its jamminess runs deep in each sip, interspersed with cherry skin notes and vinous minerality. Take care not to sip down this tannic brew too fast though, as its honeyed depths help disguise the 14% ABV!

Unless you happen to be Thor, you’ll probably want to split this massive Mead with a friend. Whether they’re new to the brew or have sipped on more than a few, they’ll owe you big time for a taste of this world-class treat.
