A Note on This Beer
Why choose between pumpkin pie and pecan pie when you can have BOTH?
At least, that’s how the owners of Oliphant Brewing feel! This ingenious idea all started waaaaay back in 1991, when an infamous blizzard blew through the Twin Cities on Halloween night. The snow was so thick on the ground that trick-or-treating would’ve required skis!
Rather than venture outside, the future brewers — who were just little tykes back then — snuggled up next to the fireplace with big slices of pumpkin and pecan pie.
Or, so the legend goes! Because, why have candy when you can have pie? And, this snow day-to-end-all-snow days was the inspiration behind Oliphant’s decadently sweet Brown Ale, Blizzard of ‘91.
The brewers crafted it with pumpkin and pecan pie spices, nut extract, and lactose. The scent is an intoxicating bouquet of autumnal spices, and each sip is like savoring a bite of creamy pumpkin pie, gooey pecan pie, and whipped cream, all at the same time!
It’s one of Oliphant’s most popular seasonal brews, and this year, Twin City locals have been asking for it since March! @Jacob H. calls it, “Ridiculously good.” and @Sara R. raves, “Thanksgiving in a glass! Mmmm!”
Luckily, you don’t have to wait for a blizzard to hit before digging into this boozy dessert! But, like pie, I’d definitely enjoy it curled up by the fire.
