A Note on This Beer
Today we’re freaking out, because Rooftop Brewing is finally re-releasing their 10% ABV Bourbon Barrel-Aged Quad for the first time since 2016!
There are only 165 cases of this intricately nuanced Quad in existence. A few are earmarked for the brewery’s members-only Mug Club, and the rest are coming straight to Tavour. Even local craft fiends in Seattle won’t be able to score a bottle anywhere but here.
The Washington Beer Award winning brewery wasn’t planning to recreate this 4.11 UT-rated delight at all, but we couldn’t stop dreaming about its luxuriant dried fruit and caramel flavors. Luckily, founder Craig Christian is an old drinkin’ buddy, so we convinced him to make another batch just for us!
That was over a year ago, and we’ve been giddy with anticipation ever since!
After a full 12 months in Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrels it was finally ready, and Rooftop invited us back to help hand dip every bottle in wax. That’s how a group of us ended up on the brewery floor, dipping the necks of bottles into cobalt-blue goo and then waving them around like idiots until they cooled and dried.
And then we finally got to sample the finished product. And WOW! This Quad might be even better than the first batch!
Notes of caramelized dates and honey drizzled figs flood the palate, while waves of warming Bourbon inundate the senses with nuances of oak and vanilla. There are hints of butterscotch and caramel and an inkling of fudge. It’s so smooth that the big ABV vanishes almost completely.
We rarely get to share a brew that we were directly involved with from start to finish, and we’re pretty damned excited. We’ve been waiting for this Quad for years, and now that it’s finally here we’ve been toasting non-stop. Grab a bottle and join us.
The original version is rated 4.11 on Untappd. We think this one is even better.
