A Note on This Beer
Today is one of those days I live for as a craft fan — a day where I don’t know whether to be more excited about the beer, or the brewery!
I’ll start with the beer. Packed with chocolate malt, cacao nibs, and late-season red raspberries from a local Virginia farm, Bourbon Barrel Raspberry Stout with Vanilla Beans (2020) is a desserty sipper right out of the gate!
Maturing in bourbon barrels adds drizzles of molasses notes to the berry chocolate torte-like decadence, while finishing on Madagascar vanilla beans gives it a dollop of whipped cream. At 11.5% ABV, it comes with a booziness to keep you smiling long after the bottle is empty.
Then, there’s the brewery. Even in the beer-saturated Mid-Atlantic, Hardywood Park stands out. Their big, boozy brews routinely land on “Best of” and “Must-try” lists from the likes of VinePair, Paste Mag, Hop Culture, and the Wall Street Journal.
And just last year, Thrillist declared Hardywood the Best Brewery in Richmond. That’s even more impressive when you consider Thrillist named the area “America’s Beer City,” thanks to the high amount of nationally recognized breweries!
