A Note on This Beer

Yeah, I’ve been in a fight. Over a pastry.

It was the fourth grade. I’d just destroyed the HARDEST spelling-test, and I was ready to celebrate. But, just as I pulled the homemade slice of blueberry strudel from my Batman lunchbox, Tall Tom took it.

Lucky for me, he and his long, grabby arms aren’t around right now! Because there’s no way anybody's about to pry Braxton Lab’s brand new Blueberry Strudel Berliner Weisse away from my craft-lovin’ claws.

What can I say? These brewers pack each batch chalk-full of drippy, juicy blueberries. Then, they use an 18-hour kettle-sour process to bring about a subtle tartness that pairs perfectly with the pie-crust-like sweetness, velvety vanilla, and lactose swimming in this dessert-inspired brew.

Not to mention, these bakers, err… brewers, just won Brewbound’s prestigious Rising Star Award! In other words, they’re quickly becoming the Martha Stewart of the pastry-brew scene.

So, if you have a “Tall Tom” goods stealer in your life, make sure they aren’t around if you snag a stash of this ooey-gooey, fruity-goodness. I’m willing to bet they’ll snatch it up, as soon as they’ve had a taste!

A good bit of cinnamon with a nice fruit/tart balance. Hard to discern blueberry but it does have a liquid pie character.

I mean, it did taste like a blueberry strudel but you really have to find it through the watered down alcohol taste. Just not my thing.

Unfortunately couldn’t taste the cinnamon much so was slightly disappointed. Blueberry aftertaste with some nicely tart notes.

Tastes very green for a “dessert” style beer. Also a lot lighter of a body then what the picture appears to show. This brewery did not impress me but struck me strangely as this is my second beer from them. I also had the fruited sour stone fruit and strangely this beer tasted very near to those stone fruit flavor. Looking for a pastry element rather then the earthy if it’s gonna call itself dessert series.

So this was FLAME, tart and bitter upfront, quick flash of cinnamon, then the lactose coats your taste buds with a pleasant vanilla almost pie crust like finish. The flavor sits with you and damn the haters this ale is FIRE.

Disappointing. It's a so-so berliner but the flavor profile doesn't resemble the description. The elements don't come together and it certainly isn't a dessert sour.

Missed a bit on the delivery of all the flavors listed. Ultra sour, yet lacking in the blueberry punch I was looking for. The best part was the smooth, crust finish.
