A Note on This Beer

I love the idea of breakfast in bed, but I tried it once with less-than-stellar results. (If anyone knows how to get syrup stains out of Egyptian cotton, please email me).

I’d much rather cozy up in my blankets with WeldWerks’ Breakfast in Bed. This flavorful rendition of my favorite morning meal is a Sour Wheat Ale brewed with real strawberries, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, and a dose of creamy milk sugar.

Every sip tastes like I’m getting a bite of fresh-off-the-griddle pancakes topped with berry compote and a dollop of whipped cream. There’s a light citrus tartness on the finish too, suggestive of a glass of OJ on the side.

Sure, you don’t HAVE to drink this one in bed. Heck, you could be wearing pajamas or dressed to the nines, for all it matters. But, I defy you to not feel snug as a bug with every sip of this homey, tangy-sweet indulgence.

Breakfast is served.

Order this one from Tavour, chilled and poured into a pint glass. Look: Gold, cloudy, looks like a wheat beer, small head and no lacing lingering on the glass. Smell: Maple up front, cinnamon, fruit, and a bit of wheat malt. Taste: Maple up front, followed by some sour fruity notes, trailing vanilla. Feel: Sour, light and refreshing. There is lactose in this so I expected a medium mouthfeel, but not very full. Nice tickle of carbonation, but it dissipates quickly. Interesting beer. It is called “Breakfast in Bed” and so a sour beer with maple, cinnamon and wheat is unique for the name. The sour is subtle, the maple subtle and the spices all subtle enough to make this a weak balanced, slightly sour maple beer. Basically it tastes like eating pancakes with maple syrup and strawberries! Yumm! Cheers everyone!

Tastes of bready malts, cinnamon, maple, and a bit of strawberry. What a strange beer. The sour is offset by the sweetness of the maple and the cinnamon spice. This is one of the most unique beers I've had in a while but I don't know if it's good. I guess I wouldn't turn another one down, but I don't think I will be in any rush to have it again either.

One of my favorites. Last night we ordered Vietnamese bowls. Mine was a ginger barbacoa and this beer paired so well it was like the two were siblings. Worth noting is that somehow they mastered sour and sweet in the same can. I need more of this.

Probably the one I was most excited about in my shipment of around 40 beers. Initial tasting is immediately a strong maple syrup and strawberry cinnamon vanilla aftertaste with a sour finish. Unfortunately after about halfway through the can your tastebuds acclimate and it just tastes like a sour with some slight sweetness. Nevertheless preety dam good and better than I expected.

If you’re looking for a breakfast beer, this is the one. I wouldn’t drink this all night, but a nice way to start my afternoon. Nice hint of maple.

Smells exactly like maple syrup! On the initial taste it’s like biting into a giant fresh juicy strawberry followed by a maple syrup after taste. The vanilla and lactose give it a nice thickness and somewhat dull the sourness.

Read what the beer is called and you nailed it. Taste like maple syrup flavored bacon. Drink this with a full breakfast in the morning and it would be a perfect complement. Not sure I would have it any other time but, it was perfect for a brunch time brew.

OMG.... tastes like a pancake with strawberries on top. Might be one of the best beers I've ever sipped on in my life. And there have been 100s.i wish I would've ordered more. Words don't do it justice. This is written after one sip
