About This Beer
When River North first entered the Best of Craft Beer Awards in 2015, they completely swept up! This powerhouse team won medals for 5 different styles of beer AND Brewery of the Year — solidifying that this Colorado crew can brew up anything they put their minds to. Including a traditional English Barleywine, like Bucket of Bolts 2022.
Tasting Notes
Buckets of Bolts (2022) starts strong and malt-forward, with a subtly sweet brown sugar and caramel backbone that balances the Ale’s strong 11.3% ABV. Let it sit, and lingering notes of scrumptious cinnamon, earthy pepper, and clove tingle the senses, adding rich nuance to the malts.

Delicious barleywine. Light fruit, lots of great depth and layers of flavor. The booziness is very faint for its ABV. Glad I bought two bottles.

This is what I want in a barley wine. Rich, malty, with a little booziness. Quite drinkable.

Super solid barleywine, just the right amount of hop bitterness, well balanced malts... AND hides the ABV well. Well done River North! p.s. this comes across closer to an American Barleywine, imo.

I love barley wines, so I still enjoyed this but honestly it was one of my least favorite in recent memory. Starts off with the characteristic warmth of a barley wine but quickly drops off to an uninteresting mild bitter aftertaste

Slight metal taste. Not great. Gonna age my bottle for 18 months

Hint of caramel goes well with the malt heaviness of the beer.

Light in flavor and nose upfront but packs tons on the finish with a lingering coffee toffee caramel hop finish. Need BA of this fosho. Nice boozy cloud over everything.

Taste a bit flatter than it’s BA cousin - little less sweet and boozy

Nice balance of boozyness, hoppyness, and subtle sweet malt. This beer is pretty easy drinking but sneaky strong. I would definitely recommend trying this beer if you can find it.

Bucket of bolts is an appropriate name for this beer. Definitely doesn’t act like a barleywine. More like a Belgian Dubbel to me until it warms a bit, and then the barleywine emerges. Malty, sweet and smooth. Nice!

Tad light bodied but has a flavorful fig and brown sugar profile
