About This Beer

Chicago locals have something even better than Cubs season to look forward to: Revolution Brewing’s annual release of its Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stouts.

It’s no wonder that mobs wait all year to get their mitts on the stuff — these barrel-aged brew maestros have a gargantuan mountain of awards from GABF, the World Beer Cup, the Festival of Barrel Aged Beers, and more!

Enter Cafe Deth, this coffee-soaked brew that packs a massive 14.8% ABV.

To craft it, the celebrated Chicago brewers start with their Imperial Oatmeal Stout, a rich, chocolatey brew, and pack it with loads of locally-roasted beans from the Windy City’s own Dark Matter Coffee. Then, they let it all mingle for a year in oak barrels!

Tasting Notes

Sophisticated espresso aromas permeate the air with each pitch-black pour. Take a sip, and tumble into decadent depths of oaky vanilla, dark chocolate, and whiskey caramel that beautifully balance the roasty brew.

RevBrew just knows how to make fantastic BA beer. Tye only bummer is that Tavour doesn’t offer all of RevBrew’s BA flavors!

Coffee is so well balanced where it complements the stout without taking a lead role. There is a creaminess that balances the roasty flavors and makes it super enjoyable. Reminds a lot of Goose Islands Special #4 minus the blueberry dimension.

Pours thick, dark, without much foam. Smells like oak and toasted malts. Decent bitter, chocolatey stout flavor with a very strong oak flavor from the barrel aging. The coffee taste is subtle, but contributes a smokiness to the drink. Almost like a bourbon shot chased by a coffee stout.

For an imperial this has a sweetness that’s welcomed giving it a smooth mouthfeel and makes it easy going down. You can tell there’s coffee notes but they aren’t overwhelming you can also note the delicious barrel the beer was aged in which also doesn’t overpower the beer overwhelming and the barrel aged beer tastes great without overpowering.
