A Note on This Beer
I hope you’re sitting down, because today’s beer is a serious jaw-dropper.
1. California Barleywine is not a Barleywine at all. The brewers only call it a “Barleywine” because of its intense, boozy strength and thick-yet-smooth mouthfeel. Instead, it’s a hop-packed Imperial IPA!
2. Actually, “hop-packed” is an understatement. It’s really a massive Quintuple IPA hopped with eyebrow-elevating amounts of Bru-1, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Eukuanot and Mosaic Hops!
3. The brew comes from SoCal’s Five Threads Brewing, known for their love of high ABVs swirling in some seriously smooth flavors. True to form, California Barleywine clocks in at a belly-warming 17% ABV, masked with big waves of candied citrus and pine flavors.
4. Five Threads is also known for brewing very precise, tiny batches that rarely leave the state. The few craft fans who’ve tried it so far are blown away, calling out “so much fruity lollipop hop flavor” and wondering “how is this 17%!?”
If you weren’t sitting while you read those revelations, go ahead and take your time picking yourself up off the floor. Just don’t dilly-dally in hitting that “Get It” button. I’m sure it won’t come as a surprise to anyone that this incredible hopbomb won’t last long.
