A Note on This Beer
No, there are no humans in today’s Cannibalism Milk Stout. At least, we don’t think so.
But here’s why this chocolatey-caramel Dark brew has been stirring up tons of debate across the craft boards since Adroit Theory released the first batch a few years ago — it was allegedly brewed without water.
Leave it to Virginia’s diabolical Dark Beer masters to lather an 11% ABV Milk Stout in rich coffee and confection flavors, then blow our minds further by revealing they swapped out the water for another mysterious ingredient!
That’s even more crazy-impressive than the fact that Adroit beers often sell out before they’re even done brewing!
Adroit’s not spilling the beans on their mysterious ingredient, and not even their exclusive Black Heart Society bottle club members are privy to the knowledge.
We talked to the brew team directly though, and we DID manage to find out that this latest Cannibalism batch has real French roast coffee beans, toasted coconut, and caramel. The lack of H2O seems to have worked some kind of magic because the result is a creamy, salted caramel, and espresso Stout with a surprisingly light, malty body.
As for the secret non-water ingredient, you’ll just have to try this decadent dark brew yourself and take a good guess. You’re among the only people outside of Virginia to get a taste, so grab a couple of buddies, take turns sipping, and tell the world what you think is REALLY in it.
And don’t worry — we’re still 98 percent sure it’s not people.
But seeing as it’s “Cannibalism,” the craft-verse minds are jumping to all kinds of conclusions. Here’s one of our favs:
“My best guesses are… Beer. They brewed a beer to brew another beer with. This makes sense as well considering the name of the beer.” – DailyBeerReview
This batch (Ghost 771) is rated 4.25 on Untappd from early reviews!
*The brewers packed so much toasted coconut in Cannibalism that you may notice some of it floating in yours. Or is it brains? You decide!*
