A Note on This Beer
Monkless Belgian Ales has been racking up medals like it’s their job.
They scored victories at the last two Oregon Beer Awards and won Brewery of the Year and Beer of the Year at the Inaugural USA Beer Ratings International Competition.
They even beat out Belgian powerhouse Brasserie Dupont! That’s how good these guys are at crafting true-to-style Belgian brews.
The only issue is, their brewery is out in hop-soaked Bend, Oregon, so folks kept wandering into the taproom and asking for hopbombs. The brewers knew they needed something with a little PNW flair, so they loaded their ultra-smooth and boozy Tripel with Citra and Hallertau Blanc Hops.
The result is today’s Oregon Beer Award-winning Capitulation!
The brewers at Monkless refer to this as their “gateway beer.” An 8.1% ABV brew designed to introduce the hop-guzzling Oregon masses to classic Belgian flavors, this bold Tripel has also become a mainstay of local Belgian fans.
Folks who dig Belgian brews will find plenty to love in Capitulation. And with its ultra-smooth sippability and unique balance of fruity hops and bald malts, this beer will also appeal to anyone looking for something different. It’s even inspiring comments on UT like “Spicy and unique,” and “Ooh! Me like!”
Notes of dank papaya and resinous pine mingle with bold malty flavors and nuances of light stone fruit, from juicy peach to ripe nectarine. Subtle hints of dried cherries and a whisper of cola reveal themselves slowly before tapering into a bready finish that lingers on the palate.
Monkless brews are nearly impossible to find outside of the Pacific Northwest. Today you have a rare opportunity to grab a can of this hoppy Tripel from a competition-crushing brewery. It’s a taste of authentic Belgian brewing and PNW hops that you just gotta try for yourself!
Capitulation won Silver at the 2018 Oregon Beer Awards!
