The best thing about visiting my cousin in the Caribbean is drinking her famous rum cocktails every evening. Don’t get me wrong – she’s fun and snorkeling is pretty great, but the woman’s cinnamon spiked rummy is a cut above.

Tasting Notes

The backbone of this brew is the original Mr. Sandman, an Imperial Stout layered with flavors of roasty malt, bitter cocoa, rich molasses, ripe cherry, and a hint of coffee. The brewers then aged it in South American rum barrels with Madagascar vanilla and Indonesian korintje cinnamon, imparting extra layers of complexity.

What you get is like a taste of my cousin’s signature cocktail: a rush of cinnamon on the nose, complemented by oaky vanilla on the palate, and finishing with a sweet booziness you’ll want to savor.

Too cinnamon for me but that’s my fault, it’s the first word in the beer’s name. Other than that, it was delicious, no big surprise since RN made it.

Found it lacking something. Subtle cinnamon and vanilla, in a good way, that has a weird contrast with the dry influence of the rum. Also thinner mouth feel than I was expecting.

Lots of cinnamon, vanilla on the nose. SUPER smooth on the palate, almost to a fault of feeling a bit thin. Playful and bittersweet chocolate right up front. Mellows quickly and barely leaves a trace. No boozy flavor to speak of
