A Note on This Beer

Back in the day, one ‘A’ on my report card = one scoop of ice cream from Baskin-Robbins. It might be the reason I ended up doing pretty well in school.

If I scored even 3 A’s, I could get a scoop of passionfruit, pineapple, AND guava sorbet and mix them all together! A winning combo!

Now that I’m all grown up, I get my favorite tropical treat in beer form with today’s 4.29 UT-rated Citra Cloud Curtain from Mountains Walking. It’s delightfully tangy, fluffy as a puppy, and just plain fantastic!

As part of Mountains Walking’s Oat Whip IPA series, this plush hop treat brings ‘mouthfeel’ to the next level. The brewers use enormous amounts of oats in the base, and a dash of Pilsner malt, and a pinch of wheat for a hugely thick, silky-smooth body that’s practically impossible to resist.

To juice up the oat-packed base, Mountains Walking double-dry hops this Cloud Curtain with 7 lbs of Citra Hops per barrel. Massive bursts of mangoes, tangerines, and nectarines rolled in whipped cream rush the palate, with hints of OJ and whispers of pine leading to the finish.

You don’t have to show me your report card to earn your share of Citra Cloud Curtain. You just have to hit the ‘Get It’ button, before everybody else does!

*Montana hop fiends are all about Mountains Walking, whose head brewer honed his skills at New York’s esteemed Other Half!

Wow! What am amazing hazy. Super smooth, with just the right amount of hoppyness to juiciness. Might be the best IPA I've had.

Huge flavor. Citrus juice bomb with big oat finish. Soft but still explodes with taste. Impressive.

The appearance is a beautiful cream colored straw cloudy body. Aroma is pure and soft grainy citrus and a whiff of herbs in the background. The flavor is very balanced between grainy sweetness and the Citra hops. The flavor of the grains and hops are not muddled here by an intrusion of lactose. The smooth silky mouthfeel is gloriously laid down by oats...simple and sweet and hoppy. A substantial and appropriate beverage in every way.

16oz can from Tavour. Hazy, milky straw colored pour, small creamy white head, lots of lacing. Mellow citrusy aroma, grapefruit. Taste brings a nice biscuity malt backbone, more light citrusy notes, and the oats provide a thick, creamy texture. Smooth, soft.

It's nice to see a beer from my old home state! The Citra on this is really heady, love it. I'm not getting the fruity notes that the description mentions, but I'm more than okay with that. It's more green and herbaceous to me.

This NE Double IPA is exquisite!!! The citra hops are bright but not too sharp. The oat whip creates a subtle smoothness that I would describe as “fluffy,” and I can only assume that is responsible for the “Cloud Curtain” name. This is the fourth beer I’ve tried in their Cloud Curtain series and I’ve loved every single one! The whimsical artwork on their cans is an added bonus and I’d my favorite of any brewery I’ve seen. I first tried Mountains Walking at the brewery in Bozeman. If you’re ever there, be sure to stop by as you’ll be in for quite a treat. Even if you already know what you want, I highly suggest starting with a flight. Their expert staff will provide several recommendations and you will not be disappointed.

Luscious creamy herbaceous refresher. Citra bright and the “Oak Whip” seems to be doing its job (not sure what job exactly but it’s tasty).

2.09/5 look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 1 | feel: 2.25 | overall: 1.25 Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 3/10/21 into a snifter at 45 degrees. Look- Dull straw, very hazy, frothy white head, average head retention, above average lacing. Smell- Clementine, floral, mango. Taste- Extremely astringent, overwhelmingly medicinal/herbaceous, oats, faint clementine finish. Feel- Full body, extremely astringent, creamy, average carbonation, moderate bitterness. Overall- Extraordinarily unpleasant astringent, medicinal, herbaceous flavor.
