A Note on This Beer
For my circle of friends here in Seattle, the first big bottleshare of the year is coming up in about a week. I’m hyped because the theme is near and dear to my heart: Weird Science.
Everyone’s going to bring a beer made of the most unusual ingredients they can find. It’s moments like these that make me really appreciate all the innovative breweries out there catapulting craft to new heights.
Like the sustainable, socially responsible, family-run, North Carolina-based brewery Haw River Farmhouse Ales.
They source the highest quality ingredients they can find — local whenever possible. So when they get inventive, they have confidence in the flavors they’re creating.
Take today’s "Coconut Curry" St. Benedict's Breakfast for example. It’s my choice to bring to the Weird Science bottleshare because I’ve never had anything like it, and I don’t expect anyone else to have either.
Pop the cap and breath in aromas of the organic roasted cocoa nibs, Peruvian coffee beans, and Indian curry spices that today’s beer was brewed with. It smells like walking past your favorite cafe that’s right next to a Michelin Star Indian restaurant.
...and then you taste it.
As your tongue wraps around this Trappist-style “Breakfast” Dubbel, savor an infusion of toasted flaked coconut and warm Indian spices. The mouthfeel is creamy, like hot cocoa. There are floral aromatics of roasted coffee and they blend with curry spice for a 'dirty' chai-like experience your palate won’t soon forget.
I’m bringing "Coconut Curry" St. Benedict's Breakfast to the bottleshare, not because I’m looking for something shocking or bizarre. But because I want everyone there to remember the beer that I bring as the most delicious thing they tried that night.
