A Note on This Beer
If you’ve been lucky enough to taste one of Perennial’s luscious Coffee Stouts before, you already know that this St. Louis crew is the real deal. They take their ingredient selection as seriously as their brewing technique!
Today’s Coffee Stout (2020 Dark Matter Coffee) is the rich, dark mocha result of not one, but two kinds of coffee beans! Perennial brews them alongside a bevy of European specialty malts and loads of flaked oats too, for fudgy chocolate flavors and a full, silky mouthfeel.
The first bean is an El Salvador coffee, washed and de-fleshed for clean, smooth, fresh-ground aromas. The second is a Guatemalan bean, fermented with Bavarian Wheat Yeast for notes of clove and vanilla amid the cocoa and coffee.
Together, at the hand of the dexterous Perennial team, today's beer tastes like an evening cuppa Joe served with a thick slice of double chocolate cake on the side!
And, while you could try ordering that combo at a diner sometime, it’s safe to say that it won’t come with a body-buzzing 11.5% ABV.
That, and the coffee won’t be anywhere near as rich as today’s delectable treat.

*Did you know that packaging in cans helps extend a beer’s cellarability? Don’t worry about the misprint on the bottom of Imperial Coffee Stout — now that they put it in cans, Perennial’s suggested “Best By” date is actually 2/2/21.
