A Note on This Beer
Before tasting the tart, puckering pleasantness in today’s 4.29 UT-rated brew, my only experience with Kansas was watching The Wizard of Oz.
But frankly, I’d hop the first flight out to Wichita and bunk up with Auntie Em if it meant I got to guzzle down Central Standard’s tongue-tickling sippers. Like Contrails on Peaches Oak-Aged Wild Ale.
As one of the first Wild and Sour-focused breweries in Kansas, these guys are putting their local craft scene on the map. They even racked up 3 shiny medals from the Great American Beer Festival in less than five years of brewing!
And trust me, you’ll taste that award-winning expertise in every peachy, stonefruity drop of Contrails.
Using the Solera blending method, the brewers start with a 3-year-old base that they age in French Oak Foudres with their house mixed culture. Then, they recondition the entire batch on 500lbs of locally-grown, white and golden peaches.
The resulting brew is so bright and brimming with Bretty funk, one sip has me practically singing, “Peaches and bubbles and oaky-goodness, oh my!”
But, unless you’re considering diving headfirst into a tornado and hoping it drops you right in front of Central Standard’s taproom, the only place to snag one of the only remaining 120 bottles of today’s 2017 Vintage is right here.
