A Note on This Beer
What do you call it when you double-up on top shelf liquor? Untappd users call it “FIRE,” and have scored it a scorching hot 4.42 rating.
These whiskey-lovers are extremely choosey folks. The distillery matters, the age matters, and community consensus definitely matters.
And, when it comes to bold, rich flavor, today’s Dark Secret Double Barrel Imperial Stout is a sharp shooter. Fans on UT rave about its “sweet, almost coconutty, boozy, chocolate body.” They say it’s 13% ABV comes “motor oil-thick” and that this brew is “perfect. Goldilocks style.”
We agree — a beautiful balance of sweetness, roastiness, and booze swims around the palate with each sip. This decadence comes from aging in both Buffalo Trace and Four Roses Whiskey Barrels for 10 months each!
If you’re new to the world of whiskey, these two are smooth-sipping favorites at bars around the world. Buffalo Trace has won Gold at the prestigious San Francisco, L.A., and New York Spirit competitions. Four Roses has taken Gold in San Francisco, the Tried & True, and at A Taste of Bluegrass festival. Like I said before: both are top shelf.
Brickstone only made about 90 cases and — besides the little stash that we snagged — the rest sold out at the brewpub in only a few hours! So, if you’re choosy about your Whiskey Barrel-Aged brews, this is your best shot at getting yourself such a distinguished bottle.
