A Note on This Beer
The latest release of Darkest Hour just dropped, and it sold out on Anchorage’s website almost immediately!
Take my word for it, you need to either snatch up a bottle now, or keep reading at your own risk — this incredible 13% ABV Imperial Stout is gonna move like a PS5 in December.
What makes this such a revered bottle for beer aficionados? Every year, the folks at Anchorage do something a little special, and a little different, to their new vintage of Darkest Hour. They go all-in until it’s a once-in-a-lifetime drinking experience for those lucky enough to get their hands on it. The Manual even named the 2019 version one the Best Barrel-Aged Beers to Drink!
And this year, Anchorage has done it again — and then some.
First, they brewed it with Alder smoked malts to intensify the roasted, campfire notes. Then, they aged it in Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon barrels for over a year. The result is a smoky, toasty Imperial Stout that still embodies the rich characteristics of the barrel it spent so long in: caramel, light vanilla, and even a touch of dark fruit.
Every new batch of Darkest Hour is carefully crafted, painstakingly refined, and highly anticipated — now, finally, we are appeased. At least for this year.
Hopefully you already added some to your crate and you’re just coming back to read this. If so, congratulations! Take good care of that precious stash!
