A Note on This Beer
My buddy Joe always complains about how “beers these days aren’t hoppy enough.” So, I had the bright idea of sharing a can of Deadly Combination from Barrier Brewing with him.
These NYC sticky cone masters brewed this juicy IPA with three of the most intense forms of Nelson and Mosaic Hops known to craft — if Joe wants hoppy, Joe shall have hoppy:
- Hop Pellets! - Nelson Hop pellets bring on full blasts of juicy berries and fresh crushed grapes, while Mosaic adds huge layers of dank mango and pithy orange peel.
- Cryo Hops! - In the form of cryo powder harvested from whole hop flowers, Nelson and Mosaic shine their tropical fruity flavors and aromas with even more intensity.
- Incognito Hops! - This 100% hop-derived liquid delivers all of the hops’ alpha acids and oil compounds (the stuff that makes Nelson and Mosaic so dang delicious) without any leafy vegetation getting in the way. It doesn’t get much purer than that!
As if Barrier didn’t already go leaps beyond what most IPA recipes call for, they merged this fierce trifecta of hop renditions with their own yeast strain. Subtle notes of citrus rind and a floral-spice complexity also shine behind all that fruity-dank flavor.
Needless to say, this high-powered hopbomb was an eye-opener for Joe. And, for anyone else who might be looking for an above-standard taste of Nelson and Mosaic, today’s Deadly Combination is the hopjuice you seek.
*Forbes calls Barrier “one of the Best Breweries” in New York because they set such a high bar with their IPAs!
