A Note on This Beer

Proclamation Ale Co. has a Mystery for craft gumshoes. Only a fresh can of today's brew and a set of taste buds on full alert are needed to solve it, though that doesn't mean it'll be easy.

See, these acclaimed brewers are keeping the hops in today’s Triple-Hopped Pale Ale a total secret! This is an opportunity to go in for a sip without prior expectations or biases based on the hop bill!

Here’s what we do know about Derivative: Mystery:

  • It comes from Thrillist’s Best Brewery in Rhode Island.
  • It clocks in at 6.0% ABV.
  • It arrives in a 16oz can with a unicorn on it.

Now, we know you Tavoursters are an astute bunch with practiced palates. So, if you want to keep this mystery hop batch a total enigma prior to tasting, we suggest stopping here and just snagging a couple of cans. You and a friend can do a fun comparison tasting!

For those who DO want some flavor notes beforehand, keep on reading.

The brewers say the Pale Ale boasts “notes of grape, pine, grass, and a small dose of dank.” When we tasted it, we got flavors of pleasant ripe clementine, white grape, and pear, backed with earthy coniferous notes.

Okay craft detective, let’s see you flex your own tasting skills with this Mystery batch!

*Online home brewing magazine BYO.com has a fantastic hop flavor chart if you’d like to try uncovering the covert ingredients in this beer.

Definitely tropical citrusy hoppy with a touch of funk ... can’t guess the hop but would lean towards something from New Zealand.

The triple hopping gave it a profoundly sweet note. The balance between smooth and creamy was appreciated.
