A Note on This Beer
California hopheads lose their hop minds when Hangar 24 Craft Brewery’s Double Betty Double IPA rolls out each Spring. Is it because it’s 10.1% ABV and loaded with 100 IBUs worth of 6 tropically-drenched hop varietals? Or that it’s thick like mango nectar?
Perhaps it’s because…it’s only available for two months out of the year. Despite years of repeated begging, finger-crossed hopes, and futile wishes from hop-thirsty fans, Hangar 24 is keeping this tasty brew super limited. It’s also got major community street cred, including a 4.19 on BeerAdvocate.
Take a big whiff of Betty and you’ll get aromablasted with lemony pineapple whooaaah-ness. Yeah, that’s herbal dank in there, too friendo. That thick and juicy mouthfeel blazes with a *puff* of grassiness, orange hints, and overripe papaya jam. Did I say thick? Yeah, it is, but don’t be mistaken -- you’ll feel every drop of that 10.1% ABV and 100 IBU lurking beneath the tropical notes.
Reminding your palate of the same boozy, hoppy, fruity intensity as Evil Twin’s Molotov Cocktail IPAs, Double Betty is not to be trifled with. I mean, you can try, but down a can and see if you can recite the alphabet backwards. Trust us, it ain’t easy.
