About This Beer
The folks at Paste magazine described Double Negative as “a flawless display of everything a non-pastry Imperial Stout can be” — right after naming Grimm one of the 50 Best American Breweries of the Decade!
Tasting Notes
The jet-black pour swirls with notes of fresh espresso and a hint of plummy dark fruit, while rich flavors of baker’s chocolate, blackstrap molasses, charred wood, and honeyed raisins make for a full-bodied sip. A dry, slightly bitter finish complements the luxuriously smooth mouthfeel, prepping your taste buds for another taste of the 10% ABV dark delight.

Just a wonderful, no bullshit Russian Imperial Stout. No adjuncts or overly sweet. Really enjoyed this, pretty rare to find a clean RIS these days

(Bottled 2021, reviewed Mar 2022) Smooth, but thin and not much going on here flavor wise. Remember liking this one more in a previous version.

Very strong and sharp, with a tangy aftertaste. An excellent dinnertime ale to be had with spouses or family.

Very smooth with a nice malt blend that brings out espresso flavors even without any adjuncts. Slight sweetness lingers at the end.

Boring and lacks flavor and body

meh 🫤 it’s a stout. surprisingly boring to be honest, and I’m not a pastry stout newbie. just not much here to get excited about, classic or otherwise.
btw, on tap a bit better. upped rating .5

very imperial. basic stout, but earthy that’s enjoyable.

Coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, light raisin, plum. Dark roast taste, bittersweet finish. Solid Imperial stout without now too popular barrel aging or adjunct additions.

Light coffee flavors add instead of overpowering the stout. Dark and infinitely drinkable, this is a winner.
