Thousands of years ago, Mastodons were some of the largest beasts roaming the planet. They might have all disappeared, but Rhinegeist’s 13% ABV Double Oaked Mastodon is just as massive as the megafauna that stomped through ancient America!

To bring this majestic leviathan to life, Rhinegeist began with a Belgian Dark Ale base, beloved for its chocolate malt complexity and banana-like esters.

Then, they gave it some serious muscle — the brewers first let the Ale slumber for 12 months in bourbon barrels, imbuing it with prominent notes of caramel and woody spice. Then, they moved Mastodon into red wine barrels for another 3 months, where it soaked up hints of ripe plum and subtle blackberry, along with a tannic dryness.

This limited-release behemoth is a sight to behold! Previous vintages have won Gold Medals at the US Open Beer Championships and the Commonwealth Cup and Silver at the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beer. Fans today are STILL smitten by its vinous character and rich, Belgiany bones.
