A Note on This Beer
Today’s two-pack of Stouts from Hubbard’s Cave is so fiesta-worthy, you might be tempted to down both cans in one night! And, no shame if you do, because that’ll let you compare the rich, delicious flavors that emanate from each variant.
First up is their fan favorite, El Zacatón (2021-1).
The brewers crafted this decadent concoction with cocoa powder, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla beans, as well as ancho, guajillo, and habanero chiles. Almond flour gives it an almost chewy mouthfeel, while aging on toasted oak mellows out the heat.
The result is an intriguingly complex brew that pours as thick and dark as melted chocolate!
The aroma is an intoxicating blend of cocoa and cinnamon, followed by the taste of fudge-drizzled churros stuffed with vanilla cream. Warm and smoky ancho and guajillo chiles bring up the rear, and there’s a mild heat from habanero that builds on the back of the palate, growing slightly spicier with each sip.
It’s no wonder these craft confectioners bring El Zacatón back again and again, thanks to popular demand from thirsty fans!
Next, we’ve got Coffee El Zacatón (2021-1). To brew it, Hubbard’s Cave took their original recipe and allowed it to rest on Mexican Chiapas coffee beans.
This mole-inspired brew overflows with layers of freshly roasted coffee and cinnamon, followed by subtle waves of velvety vanilla. A spicy chocolate aftertaste lingers on the palate, inviting you to indulge in another scintillating sip.
It’s got craft connoisseurs raving, “Wow wow wow,” and “Holy mole!... a bundle of Mexican coffee and cinnamon desserts. Nailed this thing!”
So, go ahead, call your favorite Stout fan, crack ‘em both open, and see if you can sense the different notes in each brew. Each version packs a walloping 12% ABV, so this is definitely a pairing worth sharing!
