A Note on This Beer
Standard Brewing just unleashed the Enemy of the Sun (2020) on the city of Seattle, and things are about to get real dark.
This Barrel-Aged Stout Blend is so pitch-black, it could blot out the sun for days on end. But, its dark, rich cocoa depths and subtle, smoky veil are what make it such a powerful conductor of Mass Darkness:
- Foundation of Darkness: Enemy of the Sun begins as a sweet and deceptively smooth Imperial Stout, setting the stage for dessert domination.
- Peated Whiskey Smoke Screen: Standard ages the Imperial Stout base in award-winning Westland Peated Whiskey Barrels for 15 months. The lingering smokiness would put a twinkle in any whiskey lover’s eye.
- Bourbon-backed Brawn: Then, the brewers blend it with a Russian Imperial Stout aged for 9 months in Elijah Craig 10 Year Oak. This gives the Stout Blend its strongly spiced, vanilla-like virility.
- Fudge Bombs Away: In its final form, it boasts molasses-thick waves of Godiva-grade caramel, bittersweet fudge, and a rip-roaring 11% ABV all wrapped in a wisp of subtle smoke.
In a beer-drenched city, with giants like Fremont and Holy Mountain just across town, Standard has stayed one of Seattle’s best-kept secrets.
But, with Enemy of the Sun covering the town in its decadent darkness, we suspect it’s only a matter of time until the whole world learns the power of Standard.
